Where Is the Mortal Shell 2 Chapel Key?
The Chapel Key is near Mushroom Village in southern Fainweald, southeast of the local beacon. From the Mushroom Village Beacon, turn right and travel toward the bonfire where several witch-type enemies are gathered. The key is not lying in the open: it appears on a statue only after you use the nearby stone arch to change the surroundings.

How Do You Reach the Stone Arch?
Begin at the Mushroom Village Beacon and take the right-hand route. Continue right again across the rope bridge, then look for the large bonfire and the witches gathered around it. The small freestanding arch is beside this encounter, to the right of the point where you enter the area.
- Start from the Mushroom Village Beacon.
- Turn right and follow the route toward the southeast.
- Cross the rope bridge and approach the large bonfire.
- Defeat the witch-type enemies if you want room to search safely.
- Find the small stone arch beside the bonfire area.
How Do You Reveal the Hidden Statue?
Walk through the small stone arch from the other side. Passing through the frame changes the surroundings and reveals a large statue that was not visible before. The statue holds a rope, and interacting with that rope gives you the Chapel Key.

The arch is a magical object rather than a normal doorway. Moving through it can switch which objects appear in the area, and walking back through can change the scene again. If the statue is absent, circle to the opposite face of the arch and pass fully through its center before checking the area again.
Where Do You Use the Chapel Key?
Return to the Mushroom Village Beacon after collecting the key, then take the left-hand route. This path leads toward a group of Grisha Hunters, a caged baby Grisha, and the nearby tower or chapel with large locked wooden doors. Use the Chapel Key on those doors to reveal the entrance to the Shrine of Trials.
How Do You Solve the Shrine of Trials?
The Shrine of Trials contains three rooms, each with a specific way forward. The first uses an illusory wall, the second uses two stone pedestals and pressure plates, and the last ends with a Spear Knight fight. Completing all three rooms leads to the Axe & Dagger weapon.
How Do You Pass the First Room?
Read the clue beside the king statue, then stand facing the king. Walk backward while continuing to face the statue. The illusory wall behind you disappears, opening the route into the next room.

The important action is moving backward rather than turning around and walking toward the wall normally. This puzzle repeats the same illusion theme used to reveal the Chapel Key outside. Keep the king statue in front of the character while backing through the newly opened passage.
How Do You Open the Second Room?
The second room contains two stone pedestals and matching pressure plates. Hit the pedestals until each one sits neatly on a plate. When both plates are correctly occupied, the way to the final room opens.
What Happens in the Final Room?
The final room contains a Spear Knight. Defeat this enemy to finish the Shrine of Trials and claim the weapon reward. No additional final-room puzzle is described in the collected sources.
What Reward Does the Chapel Key Lead To?
Finishing the Shrine of Trials awards the Axe & Dagger weapon. The key does not place the weapon directly in your inventory; it opens the dungeon whose three rooms must still be completed. This makes the Chapel Key the first step in the reward route rather than the reward itself. For the rest of the confirmed arsenal and its locations, use the site’s Mortal Shell 2 weapons guide.
Is the Chapel Key the Same as the Cage Key?
No, the Chapel Key and Cage Key are separate items even though both objectives are near Mushroom Village. The Chapel Key is obtained from the statue behind the stone-arch illusion and opens the Shrine of Trials. The Cage Key is purchased from the nearby trader and opens the cage holding the baby Grisha.
| Key | How to get it | Where to use it | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chapel Key | Reveal the statue through the stone arch | Large wooden chapel doors | Opens the Shrine of Trials |
| Cage Key | Purchase it from the nearby trader | Cage in the Hunter’s area | Frees the creature inside |
What Should You Check If the Route Seems Wrong?
If you reach the bonfire but cannot see the key, look for the small arch and pass through it from the opposite side. The statue is deliberately hidden until the arch changes the surroundings, so searching the visible area before triggering the illusion will not reveal it. Interact with the rope in the statue’s hands rather than looking for a loose item on the ground.
If you reach a locked cage after returning west, you are at the separate Cage Key objective. Look for the large wooden doors of the nearby chapel or tower to use the Chapel Key. Inside the first trial, face the king statue and back away from it if the wall appears solid.
If the second trial remains closed, check that both stone pedestals are resting neatly on their pressure plates. The available material confirms the objective but does not document a special reset method or alternate solution. Any claimed shortcut beyond positioning both pedestals is To be confirmed.
