Mortal Shell 2 Skins, Masks, Shades & Cosmetics Guide

Find every Mortal Shell 2 skin, mask, Shade and cosmetic, with unlock methods, Harbinger skins, Shell Shades, Blackmarrow Keys, and how to equip them.

Mortal Shell 2 cosmetics cover Harbinger skins, Shell Shades, masks, paid Obsidian Shell skins, and a separate category called Mortal Clothing. Every confirmed item on this page is visual only: cosmetics do not raise health, damage, defense, Resolve, or any other combat stat.

Use the directory below to check what an item applies to, how it unlocks, and whether it can still be earned. Launch-week discoveries are still being documented, so incomplete categories are labeled Confirmed rather than presented as a finished list.

All Mortal Shell 2 Cosmetics

This is the combined directory for all confirmed Mortal Shell 2 skins, masks, Shades, and clothing. The in-game Blackmarrow Shades and the paid Devout Edition Obsidian set are listed separately because they use different unlock methods.

The official Devout Edition Upgrade listing names all eight Obsidian Shell skins. Official PlayStation and Xbox listings separately identify the two Harbinger skins as pre-order rewards, not Devout-only rewards.

What Are Skins, Shades, Masks & Clothing?

Mortal Shell 2 uses several cosmetic labels for different parts of the character model:

  • Harbinger skins replace the appearance of your unpossessed Harbinger.
  • Shell Shades recolor an individual playable Shell and unlock from the Blackmarrow chests in Marrow Keep.
  • Obsidian Shell skins are the paid Devout Edition alternatives for all eight playable Shells.
  • Masks add headwear to the Harbinger, with Gragu’s Helmet as a Shell-specific exception.
  • Mortal Clothing changes clothing on the Mortal or Harbinger form. Only Lavender’s Robe is reliably documented so far.

These labels describe appearance, not equipment power. None of the confirmed cosmetics adds armor, damage, abilities, or progression bonuses.

How to Change Skins and Shades

Rest at a Beacon after reaching Marrow Keep and choose Change Shades to equip Harbinger skins, Shell Shades, or eligible Obsidian looks. Choose Change Masks for the Flower Crown, Mango, and other unlocked headwear. You can preview unlocked options before confirming, and changing them costs nothing.

Shell-specific options only appear after you have discovered the matching Shell. Account rewards such as the pre-order skins, Open Beta reward, and Devout Edition set should appear on the same platform account that earned or purchased them. If an entitlement is missing, finish the prologue, reach Marrow Keep, and verify the account and add-on installation before contacting platform support.

The launch build identifies Lavender’s Robe as a Mortal Clothing unlock, but current published sources do not clearly document a separate clothing selector. This guide will not guess at an equip path until the menu flow can be verified.

All Harbinger Skins & How to Unlock Them

Harbinger skins affect the default body used outside a Shell. The pre-order and beta windows have ended, while Cosmic Harbinger remains earnable through normal play.

The official Open Beta store page confirms the Flayed Harbinger reward. The official pre-order add-on listing confirms that Skeletal and Obsidian Harbinger were bundled with pre-orders.

All Shell Shades & How to Unlock Them

Each permanent playable Shell has one named alternate Shade tied to a chest around the Marrow Keep elevator. One Blackmarrow Key opens one chest, and the matching Shell must already be unlocked.

Prioritize the Shell you actually use before spending a key. The chest prompt identifies its linked Shell, and an undiscovered Shell’s chest stays locked.

All Masks & How to Unlock Them

Masks are headwear cosmetics. Three are confirmed in the launch build, but this section will remain open to updates rather than claim the game has no others.

Masks do not alter stats, dialogue, armor, or combat. Check the Change Masks menu at a Beacon after meeting an unlock condition.

Mortal Clothing & How to Unlock It

Mortal Clothing is a separate cosmetic label for garments worn by the Mortal or Harbinger form outside a Shell. Search demand for the term is already clear, but the full clothing roster is not yet reliably documented, so this page lists only confirmed finds.

Confirmed Mortal Clothing

ClothingApplies ToLocationUnlock RequirementVerification Status
Lavender’s RobeMortal formIllusionist’s Cache dungeonSolve the dungeon route and pick up the robe after the Shuddering Stone chestConfirmed by launch-week gameplay guides

The documented route places Lavender’s Robe inside the Illusionist’s Cache, after the portal-and-pillar puzzle opens the area containing the Shuddering Stone. The nearby robe pickup explicitly grants a Mortal Clothing unlock. This is based on launch-week gameplay documentation; no official complete clothing list has been published.

How to Equip Mortal Clothing

The unlock is added to the customization collection when the robe is picked up. Current public guides do not yet show the complete menu sequence for equipping Mortal Clothing, so the exact selector and any additional garments remain to be verified. That limitation is intentional: a partial confirmed list is more useful than an invented “all clothing” table.

Devout Edition Obsidian Skins

The Devout Edition Upgrade contains the complete Obsidian skin pack for the eight playable Shells: Tiel, Proxima, Genessa, Lazlo, Smert, Eredrim, Sariel, and Gragu. These paid cosmetics do not need Blackmarrow Keys and do not affect stats.

The two Harbinger pre-order skins are a separate entitlement. Players who pre-ordered either the Standard or Devout Edition received Skeletal Harbinger and Obsidian Harbinger; buying the Devout Upgrade after launch grants the eight Obsidian Shell skins, not those expired pre-order rewards. See the Devout Edition guide for current contents and upgrade details.

Pre-Order & Limited-Time Cosmetics

Three currently documented cosmetics can no longer be earned through their original promotion:

CosmeticOriginal RequirementCurrent Status
Obsidian HarbingerPre-order Mortal Shell 2Pre-order window ended
Skeletal HarbingerPre-order Mortal Shell 2Pre-order window ended
Flayed HarbingerPlay at least 30 minutes of the Open BetaBeta window ended

If you qualified but do not see one of these rewards, confirm that the full game uses the same platform account as the purchase or beta session. No official post-launch purchase path has been announced for these three Harbinger skins.

How Blackmarrow Keys Unlock Shades

Blackmarrow Keys are consumed at the eight Shell chests surrounding the Marrow Keep elevator. Each chest is bound to one Shell and unlocks that Shell’s named Shade. The chest stays unavailable until its Shell has been discovered, which prevents spending a key on a character that is not yet in your roster.

This pillar page covers the cosmetic mechanism rather than maintaining a launch-week list of half-confirmed key coordinates. One reported key source involves a Night Mode merchant; use the Night Mode guide to unlock the harder world state, and use the Mortal Shell 2 map guide to plan routes between Marrow Keep and explored regions.

Where Is the Marrow Keep Shade Room?

The Shade unlock room surrounds the elevator in Marrow Keep. Eight chests line the room, one for each permanent playable Shell. Bring a Blackmarrow Key, walk to the chest for a Shell you have already unlocked, read the confirmation prompt, and open it to add that Shade to the Beacon menu.

Eight Shell Shade chests around the Marrow Keep elevator

Opening a chest consumes the key, so inspect the linked Shell before confirming. You can return to the room whenever you find another key.

Missable Cosmetics

The clearest missable or time-limited rewards are the early Flower Crown interaction, the two expired pre-order Harbinger skins, and the expired Open Beta reward. Cosmic Harbinger, Blackmarrow Shell Shades, the Devout Obsidian Shell set, the Mango mask, Gragu’s Helmet, and Lavender’s Robe have no documented promotional deadline.

For a clean collection run, speak to Marigold when first encountered, verify account-bound rewards after reaching Marrow Keep, unlock all eight playable Shells, and save Blackmarrow Keys for the Shade chests tied to your preferred Shells.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you change skins in Mortal Shell 2?

Rest at a Beacon after reaching Marrow Keep, open Change Shades, and select an unlocked Harbinger skin or Shell Shade. Swapping is free and does not consume the cosmetic.

How do you equip skins in Mortal Shell 2?

Use Change Shades at a Beacon. Shell-specific looks only become selectable after the related Shell is unlocked; account rewards must be installed or linked to the account playing the game.

What are Mortal Shell 2 Shades?

Shades are alternate appearances for playable Shells. The eight base named Shades come from Blackmarrow chests in Marrow Keep, while the Devout Edition adds a separate set of eight Obsidian Shell skins.

How do you unlock all masks in Mortal Shell 2?

The confirmed masks come from interacting with Marigold, equipping the Mango as a passive item, and unlocking Gragu. Use Change Masks at a Beacon after meeting the relevant condition.

How do you get Harbinger skins?

Complete the game for Cosmic Harbinger. Obsidian and Skeletal Harbinger were pre-order rewards, and Flayed Harbinger required at least 30 minutes in the Open Beta.

What is Mortal Clothing in Mortal Shell 2?

Mortal Clothing is the in-game category for garments applied to the Mortal or Harbinger form. Lavender’s Robe, found in the Illusionist’s Cache dungeon, is the only clothing unlock confirmed on this page so far.

Are Mortal Shell 2 skins cosmetic only?

Yes. Confirmed skins, Shades, masks, and Mortal Clothing change appearance only. They do not add health, damage, defense, abilities, or progression bonuses.

Can you still get the Flayed Harbinger skin?

Only accounts that met the Open Beta playtime requirement are documented as eligible. The beta has ended, and no official post-launch unlock or purchase method has been announced.
